This is only going to be a quick review as of right now, since my testing was cut short.
What i bought the other day, from House of Hobbies, was a pair of Duratrax 2.8" tire/rim combo. "Six Pack MT" premount on black rims in the c2 compound. i basicalky wanted to try something new for my sl4sh as i currently only really run the proline masher 2.8 on desperado rims. These appeared to be fairly soft, provide a large flat footprint and looked good without being chrome. The price was also reasonable after my wmarcc discount.
These rims and tires looked good on the old bronco bodied sl4sh and my first few trigger pulls gave me a smile. They really made my rig look that much more scale(ish). Out on the trail they seemed to hook up well and made climbing a breeze. With the big wide contact patch and the soft rubber, i found it to be a great combo and what i was looking for. Really happy with this purchase as far as TIRE performance and the overall look.
The bad part was the fact that the awesome looking rims have very shallow hex mounts and the rim seemed a bit soft. Repeatedly upon giving the throttle i had issues with the rim deforming over my wheel hexes, backing the nut off and then the tire falling off. Now, this only happened on my right rear tire. Thread lock was in the threads, knurled nuts were used and i never had an issue with the prolines. If i did not apply torque, i was fine. But if i give too much gas the rim would deform and the nut would back off. Very annoying and ultimately i lost a tire on the trail as it came loose and tumbled down a hill ending its escape into the river where it disappeared....
As far as the actual tire and tread, i found them to do a great job. Plenty of conformity, looks, grip and dirt throwing ability. The rims however....they look very good, but the hex mount area is weak. Now this could be made to work by simply removing the axle hex and glueing it into the rim. but honestly i shouldnt have too.
So, lets rate. On a scale of 1-10 i give them 6. Tire itself is great! The rims they come on...poop!
Now i am not going to give up on them just yet, i will probably buy yet another set (since i need a tire now). I am also going to purchase aluminum hexes to see if that helps...I will update this as i find out more.
Thanks for reading.
